![]() Operation Smile
Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that heals children's smiles, forever changing their lives. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. One in 10 of those children will die before their first birthday. The children who survive are often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a productive life. Over the years, the Zion Sunday School has contributed their Lenten offering to Operation Smile. Since 2007, we have raised $12,142, enough to fund 50 surgeries for children around the world. Visit the Operation Smile website for more information on the organization. |
![]() Green County Food Pantry
The Juda and Oakley churches have taken an active role assisting the Green County Food Pantry for many years. Our churches assist with packing food onMonday afternoons during the month of July. This involves packing specific food and toiletry items for the families. In addition, our Youth Group sponsors a food drive in the month of November each year. Acceptable donations consist of canned goods, boxed meals and toiletries. Monetary donations are also graciously accepted. Donations can be left at the church at any time. During the growing season, fresh garden produce is especially appreciated. The Green County Food Pantry, Inc is located at 1129 17th Avenue in Monroe. The purpose of the food pantry is to serve any Green County resident who is in need of food. The pantry is open on Mondays from 2:00 PM to 4:30pm. |
![]() Family Promise
Our churches are active with the Family Promise Program of Green County. Family Promise of Green County is part of a national program that responds to the growing need to provide shelter, meals and comprehensive support services to families without homes. The program unites the congregations from area churches to assist these families. Thirteen congregations host three to five families (up to 14 individuals) about four times a year – for one week at a time. Overnight lodging is provided from 5:00 pm to 7:00 am the next morning. Host congregations provide overnight lodging, breakfast, brown-bag lunch, dinner, and hospitality. Volunteers are the heart of the Family Promise, without them, it cannot exist. Volunteers provide a variety of services: cooking and serving meals, playing with children, helping with homework, and staying overnight. Beyond providing lodging and meals, volunteers interact with the guests, treating them with respect and responding with compassion.
